Europa
Black Steel Relief
Europa is a freehand-carved relief, created on a 107 × 60 cm black-steel plate through engraving, cutting, and acid-induced patination.
Its fractured surface brings together lines, edges, oxidized traces, and reflective structures, forming an image that changes with light and the viewer’s perspective. The relief stands on its own as a sculptural work and can be extended through an experimental video projection, where moving images meet the relief and activate its highlights, shadows, and textures. The following video shows this interplay between relief, projection, light, and movement.
During projection breaks, the relief on its own
—sculptural and still—
continues to reflect light in shifting ways as you move around it.
The installation Europa offers a dynamic visual experience, where movement becomes part of the sculpture, while new shifting light reflections change with the viewer’s perspective.
