Europa: Cinematic Relief on Black Steel
An engraved black-steel relief meets projected video art. In their interplay, the relief casts shifting highlights that give movement a metallic texture.
The relief was created on a black steel plate (107 × 60 cm) through freehand carving and acid patination. Projected video art sequences interact with the engraved plate, merging metallic texture with filmic movement to create new light-reflecting effects that shift dynamically with the viewer’s perspective.
These moving reflections deepen the work’s engagement with environmental collapse and authoritarian power structures. During projection breaks, the relief on its own
—sculptural and still—
continues to reflect light in shifting ways as you move around it.
The installation Europa offers a dynamic visual experience, where movement becomes part of the sculpture.
